Untitled shaped canvas is a work from series done in 1967. These works were influenced by formalist abstraction but already the shaped canvas challenged formalism's focus on the tension between illusionistic space and the "picture plane" of a conventional rectangular canvas. Another work from this series was the first exhibited by Milliss, at the CAS Annual Exhibition in 1968 where it was purchased by Central Street Gallery founder John White.
